PhonePe Revolutionizes Voice Payment Notifications with Vernacular Support

In a groundbreaking move, PhonePe, the leading digital payments platform, has announced that its SmartSpeakers will now feature voice payment notifications in Telugu. This introduction of vernacular voice notifications allows merchants to instantly validate customer payments in their preferred regional language, without the need to check their phone screens or wait for payment confirmation SMS from the bank, particularly during peak business hours.

PhonePe SmartSpeakers have already gained significant traction among merchant partners, with their adoption spanning across 19,000 pin codes, covering over 90 percent of the country. The state of Telangana alone boasts a staggering 21 lakh merchant partners who have enthusiastically embraced PhonePe’s QR codes and other digital solutions.

The addition of voice payment notifications in Telugu is set to further empower these merchants, as they can now access PhonePe SmartSpeakers within the PhonePe for Business app, at no additional cost. Remarkably, PhonePe SmartSpeakers already validate an average of six crore transactions per month in Telangana alone, demonstrating their widespread adoption and effectiveness.

Vivek Lohcheb, Head of Offline Business at PhonePe, shared his perspective on these new offerings, stating, “As we extend digital payments to the heartlands of India, our goal is to actively address the challenges faced by merchants and optimize the utilization of our SmartSpeaker devices. With the increasing demand for payment validation, our objective is to make our devices accessible to every merchant in India by localizing and customizing our services to meet their specific requirements.”

To facilitate merchants in downloading and selecting their preferred regional language on the PhonePe SmartSpeaker, PhonePe has provided a step-by-step guide:

  1. Launch the PhonePe for Business App
  2. Access the SmartSpeaker section on the home screen
  3. Choose your preferred language from the available options under the Language bar
  4. Download the selected language onto the device
  5. Reboot the device, and it will be updated with the chosen language

PhonePe had unveiled the SmartSpeakers last year, revolutionizing payment tracking at stores with their reliable and convenient features. Noteworthy attributes that set PhonePe SmartSpeakers apart in the market include portability, an exceptional battery life, remarkable audio clarity even in noisy environments, and a compact and versatile form factor, enabling merchants to use them even in congested counter spaces.

Previously, merchants relying on feature phones heavily relied on SMS for payment validation. These cutting-edge devices offer up to four days of battery life, seamless data connectivity, a dedicated battery level LED indicator for ease of use, audio alerts for low battery levels, and a replay button for the last transaction.
