A live bomb was discovered near the helipad used by the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana on Monday, prompting the deployment of a bomb disposal squad to the scene.
The bomb was located in a field on the Nayagaon-Kansal road, about one kilometer from the helipad and two kilometers from the official residences of the chief ministers.
An official from the disaster management department stated that the police control room received a report of a bomb-like object near the Kansal and Nayagaon T-point, and upon investigation, it was determined to be a live shell.
The area has been sealed off, and the shell has been placed in a drum and covered with sandbags while the Army has been alerted to take further action.
It is currently being investigated how the shell ended up at the location, though the possibility of a scrap dealer dumping it there has not been ruled out. In the past, discarded shells have also been found in the area.
